The waste industry, even with a small workforce, is apparently one of the most dangerous with 3.5% of its workforce injured during 2020-2021.

Moving away from injuries the accident stats show, 1.7 million workers are estimated to have suffered work-related illness with 800,000 of these cases relating to stress, anxiety or depression.

  • 17k new cases of breathing or lung problems caused or made worse by work
  • 93k self-reported catching Coronavirus at work
  • Additionally, 645k reported that other work-related illnesses were caused or made worse by the pandemic
  • 2/3 of these cases were due to stress, depression or anxiety.

It is vital employers recognise and respond to the challenge of work-related mental health issues ensuring their health & safety procedures & policies not only cover the causes of any accidents, but also work-related health problems too.
