Time is coming to a close on Ionisation Smoke Detectors

April 25, 2022

It’s time to replace and upgrade those Ionisation smoke detectors, which contain a small amount of radioactive material proving to be an environmental problem for their disposal.

What’s the alternative?  Developments have led to the photoelectric or optical smoke detectors becoming far more reliable.  There are also combination detectors available too – smoke/heat and carbon monoxide/heat.

What if you have a commercial alarm system?  If you have a commercial alarm system with a fire panel then your alarm company should be able to advise on any replacement equipment.

What to do if you are a domestic type system?  If you have a domestic type system with no alarm panel then you need to refresh your knowledge on the products and specifications before you purchase – seek advice from your fire risk assessor or product manufacturers technical team.
